Program 27: "The Angel of Metaphor"

In the early aughts, I discovered an amazing book by J. Ruth Gendler called The Book of Qualities. In it, she personifies ideas and states of mind like Contentment, Service, and Detachment. Around the same time, a friend quoted the Talmud to me: ÒEvery blade of grass has its angel that bends over it and whispers, 'Grow, grow.'Ó And I thought: jeez, those angels sure got the short end of the employment stick. I'd much rather be the Angel of Metaphor. Then I realized that the Angel of Metaphor is always kind of whispering to me: "grow, grow." Anyway, it's a living.
